Engineering News-Record (ENR) is a weekly magazine for construction industry professionals. ENR is known for its annual “Top Lists”, which include “Top Design Firms”, “Top Contractors”, “Top Environmental Firms”, and “Top Newsmakers”. The “Top Lists” are compiled to recognize top industry professionals who made a difference in their field throughout the course of the year. 2014 marked ENR’s 50th anniversary of its “Top Lists” program.
The magazine’s “ Top 25 Newsmakers” program recognizes excellent leadership and outstanding achievements in the construction industry. Magazine editors review the news and select leaders who stand out to be a part of the “Top 25” – there are no applications or exterior nominations. Among those recognized in the “Top Newsmakers” category for 2014 was our very own Don Ahern, Chairman and CEO of Ahern Rentals, President & Owner of Xtreme Manufacturing, and Owner of Snorkel. He was presented with his award at a glittering black-tie awards ceremony in New York City on April 16th.
Don was recognized by ENR for coming back on top after surviving the recession and an attempted hostile takeover. Following Ahern’s recovery, his acquisition of working capital, and full debt repayment, he bought 56-year-old aerial lift manufacturing company Snorkel.
“Goals are where you stop and rest. Just let the sky be the limit,” said Ahern.
